brooke shaden inspiration
the photographer i chose to do an homage to is brooke shaden. born in pennsylvania in 1987, she got a bachelors degree in english and film from temple university.
she currently lives in arizona with her husband. her work is very surreal and painterly and i find a lot of inspiration in her work. even though she is young, 26, she has still gained quite a bit of fame from her photography.
i first found her work last year while browsing on flickr and was immediately obsessed with her work. i often find myself staring at some of her images trying to figure out how exactly how took the shot and edited it.
she uses multiple shots, layer masking and her mastery of photoshop to create other worlds that her characters are in where anything is possible. she has a story for each subject.

Magazine Cover Assignment
For my magazine cover, I chose to do "White Girl Weekly", a magazine targeted towards obnoxious teenage white girls. I styled my model as a common white girl, with a North Face jacket and Starbucks cup. I chose mint blue chevron for the background and coral pink for the title because obviously and then added several white girl related articles. Lastly, I added a barcode to make it more realistic.

vibeke tandberg homage
For my homage image, I did an homage to Vibeke Tandberg who would merge her face with that of a friends. I found this concept very interesting as it is literally putting yourself into your work. To do this, I took a photo of my friend, Luci, and a photo of myself and used layer masking to merge our faces.

multi-bracketed images
In this series, I experimented with multiple stops in HDR images. The point of these multiple stops was to see the amount of detail that could be seen when more stops are added to the images. I made it up to 13 stops for each image and though there isn't a huge difference, there is a difference. I took one image with studio lighting and one image with natural light.
